Bruce is entering his 6th week of recovery for his shoulder. He’s been in PT 2x’s weekly for the past 5 weeks. His therapist has been able to raise his arm above his head for the past 2. WITH NO PAIN! One more week of no holding anything heavier than his phone and using his sling full time. It hasn’t stopped him from driving once they gave him the OK.
Full time sling wearing? HA!
He suffers from residual nerve pain in his forearm, which is common post op. It’s resolving weekly, but it causes some annoying issues. Tingling, pain and numbness in his hand and fingers. His surgeon is a gift, his local reputation is stellar. We’re chalking it up as one of those divine provisions. He did a reverse joint replacement. So rather than putting the shoulder ball on the arm bone, they placed it in the joint space and put the plate on his arm.
I’ve been quilting up a storm, using scraps and taking advantage of the local long arm services, along with my favorite quilt store. Knowing I won’t have a long arm service till we land in Alabama this December, is motivating. Christmas gifts in progress. We hosted some missionaries from Senegal a few weeks ago, and they all took home Miss Cinda gifts.
The children’s quilts were made from ‘scrap and stash’ fabrics, (it’s a quilting thing). I played around with 2.5” strips, trying to learn a Lone Star pattern. A big mistake in the cutting process, ended up giving me enough pieces for the 3 small quilts.
Mistakes = best gifts.
Rain has been a constant here. Soggy shoes, drowned potted plants, muddy paws and a huge invite for the bugs. We’ve seen tent campers vacate during downpours, and while campfires are fun…let’s just say, we smell a lot of smoke from damp wood. And like the rest of the country, the heat is now on in Indiana! It also brought its best friend,
Humidity
I signed up for the Peach Truck delivery that swings through town. 25lbs of Georgia peaches to contend with. As I stood in line I asked the ‘veterans’ if these peaches were really worth it. The looks of derision were abundant! How could I even think to ask this question?
They were right.
Peaches and strawberries are my favorite fruits, so it was a no brainer. 3 bags of pie filling and one of straight peaches now reside in my RV freezer. The truck comes again before we leave, and I may just have to buy another box.
We also visited a wild animal rescue that resides about 20 minutes from us.
It’s a non profit center that takes in wild animals from farms, and homes that no longer want to care for these babies. Tigers are my spirit animal. Mine was lifted high and well infused by this field trip.
We were mere feet away from these beauties. Those that were once pets, loved being near people again. Touching was forbidden (of course). But some of those big cats were missing the affection they once had. There were also stories of neglect and abuse. But often these guys were left with no one to care for them after their owners died. Families left with the big question of, ‘What to do with Tigger?’. Hard to imagine someone thinking they can turn a tiger cub into a pet kitty, but it happens.
Carolyn and her entourage visited last weekend, and game night arrived!
With the 4th of July celebrations approaching, I pray all of you remain safe. America may be at a kind of crossroads, and the discontentment among the masses is real. But there is still so much to celebrate! For a country that’s been labeled ‘an experiment’ we’ve come a long way. Yes there is more to do and further to go. I believe we’ll do some of it over time. The simple fact is,
America isn’t done yet!
I’ll be raising a can of something cold, while cooling in the campground pool, covering myself in bug spray, and eating burgers and fresh corn.
Thank you God, for the blessing that still is,
The United States of America
