We left NC yesterday. We decided we were too cold and it was time to embrace the snowbird label. Ultimately we’re headed to AZ but along the way we’ll visit some Gulf areas. Currently we’re in Columbus GA on our way to Coden AL, where we’ll land for 5days before heading to Laurel MS.
Laurel is a definite detour! (The HGTV tour begins)
And I finally managed to come down with whatever bug was going around in NC. Flu, cold or Covid, who knows?
Staying in one place for close to 2 months was highly recommended by many full time RV folks. When I was planning our route, we always assumed we’d go back to the Midwest for the holidays. But as I began to plot our return trek, I realized it was going to be an arduous and long trip, vs staying in NC for the holidays. When I tossed the idea to Bruce he was entirely on board.
So stay we did
It gave us time to have Rx’s transferred and refilled, see an eye doctor for new contacts and eye glasses, stock up on supplies, do a bit of maintenance on the wheely house and find some fun Christmas buys.
Flat Rock NC was lovely on November 1, but getting colder by the day on December 25th. We were unhooking the hose so it wouldn’t freeze at night. Using the outdoor table was not happening. Those 20 ish nights and 30 ish days were getting to me. We cut our visit short and hit the road, added a few days to our stay in Coden AL and voila’ here we are.
So far, Georgia weather isn’t much better than North Carolina…
As we look ahead to weather forecasts, both Coden AL and New Orleans LA seem to be, at a minimum, 10 degrees warmer.
Arizona should feel just fine!
Highlights from our stay in NC include the following,

And last of all, our visit through a torrential rain storm to see some friends of our kids’

Western NC is lovely. We will come back one day. Maybe not exactly in the same place, but somewhere in the mountains. It’s 2nd to my beach/water places to visit. Those flat lander roots are deep!
Bruce plans to visit the National Infantry Museum today. We are walking distance away from it. And if I’m feeling better tomorrow there is a river walk downtown that we may explore. This is largely a stopover spot on the way to our next destination.
As we packed up yesterday then set up last night we looked at each other and said,
“This isn’t so bad! We get better at it all the time.”
Bruce is in his element managing the RV. He loves handling all the equipment and the maintenance. I’ve enjoyed the simplicity of life. Less decisions about cooking. Limits on spaces so that my shopping is simpler. Cleaning happens in half an hour, if that. And now that we’ve adapted to our bed cupboard, we actually look forward to sleeping in it. It was a tad claustrophobic at first.
All in all, this life suits us right now. We’re happy to be making memories and seeing places. Living simply and enjoying the anticipation of our next destination.
Maybe it’s going to last longer than we imagined???
Happy New Year!
